Firewalla Gold Plus

Firewalla's Gold Plus is a software-defined firewall built around a quad-core 2 GHz Intel CPU with 4GB of RAM — enough headroom to run deep packet inspection on every device on the network at up to 5 Gbps, instead of the token IDS features bolted onto a consumer router. Four 2.5 Gigabit ports mean it doesn't bottleneck a fibre connection that would choke a Gigabit-only firewall, and it can run in router mode as the sole gateway or sit inline behind an existing router in bridge/DHCP mode. Every device gets full visibility — bandwidth used, flows initiated, intrusion attempts blocked — all from the Firewalla app rather than a rack-mount appliance's web console, with no monthly subscription required to keep using the core security features. VPN Server and Client modes (OpenVPN and WireGuard) let staff reach the office network securely from outside, and multi-WAN/failover support means a second uplink takes over automatically if the primary drops. It doesn't include Wi-Fi, so it's built to sit behind an existing access point or router in AP mode rather than replace one — the right fit for a small office or school network that already has Wi-Fi sorted and needs the security and visibility layer added on top, not another router to reconfigure everything around.
