The CRS309 is what we spec when a network's Gigabit backbone has become the actual bottleneck — 8 SFP+ ports give 10G links to a server rack, a core switch, or a handful of high-traffic access points, backed by a 162 Gbps switching capacity that never becomes the limit itself. A single Gigabit RJ45 port (with passive PoE-in support) handles management or a lower-speed uplink without eating into the SFP+ count. Dual-boot between RouterOS and SwOS means it's either a fully configurable Layer 3 switch with the same firewall and routing depth as MikroTik's routers, or a simpler, faster Layer 2 switch when that's all a site needs — the choice is a reboot, not a different piece of hardware. The all-metal chassis doubles as a heatsink, so it runs completely fanless: no dust intake, no fan noise in a room where that matters. Compact at 272 x 158 x 44mm, it sits on a desktop or 1U rack shelf without needing a full switch's worth of depth, making it a realistic fit for a wiring closet as much as a server room.
